When buying a Down jacket, Goose Down feathers up.

A Down jacket is an essential for every winter wardrobe and not only because it's the warmest you can keep, furs excluded, on those sub zero winter days. It has a great look, with jeans or trousers from city to slopes, designer and traditional Down jackets keep you looking and feeling comfortable even when the temperature is under human tolerance. Here are the different types of down and which will keep you the warmest.

Simply put, goose down has the best warmth-to-weight ratio of any insulation...

This is because of the extreme capacity the goose down has to absorb the humidity of the body and to transfer it to the external environment (hygroscopicity), and also its ability to absorb and contain considerable quantities of air (heat insulation)
.

Goose down, duck down and feathers, what's the difference?

Down, and especially goose down, is a three-dimensional body, formed by a small central nucleus from which numerous particularly elastic filaments spread out, creating millions of tiny air spaces and developing thermal isolation which maintains body temperature.
Duck Down is smaller than goose down and therefore has less elasticity, volume, resistance and lifespan.
The feather has a completely different structure than that of down; it is rigid, flat, heavier, with scarce capacity for absorbing air.

So when choosing a down jacket make sure it feathers up for warmth and has a great apres ski look.
